Gaye Theresa Johnson
Associate Professor, UCLA
Gaye Theresa Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies and an affiliate in the Department of African American Studies at the University of California at Los Angeles. She also serves as Chair of the Faculty Advisory Committee for the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies. A historian of freedom struggles and cultural politics who is deeply invested in social justice movements, grassroots organizations, and advocacy work. Johnson is an award-winning scholar and teacher with an international profile in studies of Black radicalism, Chicana/o cultural politics, and expressive culture. In addition to her academic and activist work, she serves as an advocate, facilitator, and healing justice trainer for grassroots organizations, and also serves on the board of California Latinas for Reproductive Justice. Her proudest achievement is being a mother to her 12-year-old daughter and a part of the circle of friends and family that constitute the core of her life.
